The GOP: Rotten From The Inside Out

Attention voters, the Republican party thinks you are incredibly stupid. The latest stunt from our sleazy Gov., Ernie Fletcher, just made that clear by pardoning all current and former members of his administration indicted for illegal merit hiring practices. He also pardoned "any and all persons accused of committing, any offense up to and including the date hereof, relating in any way to the current investigation."
Simply stunning. Another Republican who thinks he is above the law. Read the Courier-Journal articles here: Fletcher Pardons Nine and weigh in with your opinion.

Host or Join a Vigil for Cindy Sheehan Wednesday

This is from MoveOn.org.... Thanks to Maria for bring it to our attention...
"Dear MoveOn member,
On Saturday, President Bush went on a bike ride. According to news reports, his schedule also included "a nap, some fishing, and some reading."1 But President Bush refused to meet with Cindy Sheehan, the grieving mother who lost her son in Iraq. Cindy is fast becoming an international spokeswoman against the war. But now, it's up to all of us to show that she's not alone in demanding answers from the president.
Cindy has asked supporters to start candlelight vigils in our communities to remind people of the terrible price of war. So, MoveOn, TrueMajority and Democracy for America have teamed up to organize nationwide "Vigils for Cindy Sheehan" (and for all military and gold star families) on this coming Wednesday, August 17th, starting at 7:30 PM local time.
Since Saturday, folks have agreed to host close to 300 vigils, but we need to do better than that. Hosting a vigil doesn't take much time, but it'll offer lots of people in your community a way to connect. We've prepared a kit that walks you through exactly what you need to do. Can you host a vigil in your community?
Check here to see if there is a vigil in your neighborhood already."

If not, click on the link below to host a vigil.
http://www.moveon.org/r?r=837&id=
When you host a vigil, you'll fill out an online form indicating where your vigil will be located. Then, MoveOn, True Majority and Democracy for America members in your community will log on to our website and be able to find your vigil and attend it. We've made it easy for you to manage your vigil, with tools to limit the size of the vigil, communicate with people who will be attending, and more.
Otherwise, you can find a vigil to attend in your neighborhood at:
http://political.moveon.org/event/cindyvigils/?id=5892-4272309-r.XYkUS5Jdm6IRGTcm_14Q&t=4
Here is what Cindy said about the vigils: "I invite mothers everywhere to stand up with me so that no more of our sons and daughters lose their lives for a war based on lies and deception. Join me in demanding the truth—and an end to the war—by organizing vigils across the country, before one more mother's child is lost."
If you're an Iraq veteran, or a family member of a soldier, it'd be especially meaningful for you to join us. Bring a photo of your loved one to remind all of us what is at stake. Two great organizations, Gold Star Families for Peace and Military Families Speak Out, are leading the way to make the voices of military families heard loud and clear. Thousands of people are already doing a lot—organizing events and more—to help bring Cindy's stand to communities across America. Will you help too?
Hosting a vigil is really simple. All you have to do is choose the location, invite some friends and get some candles. If you can't host, it's really easy to attend one—just RSVP, get some candles and show up.
These vigils aren't rallies or places to give long-winded speeches. They are moments to solemnly come together and mark the sacrifice of Cindy and other families. We're asking people to gather for just a half hour or so. We've put together an easy way for you to sign-up to host a vigil or attend one. Once you register your vigil, we'll invite other MoveOn members in your community to join your vigil.
If you can't host, we welcome everyone to attend a candlelight vigil. Please click below to get started.

If we all join together and do our part we can show the sort of public support for Cindy the president can’t ignore. Thanks for all you do.

CNN suspends Robert Novak (From JON ....)
He swore and walked off set during a debate with James Carville
Updated: 7:57 p.m. ET Aug. 4, 2005
NEW YORK - CNN suspended commentator Robert Novak indefinitely after he swore and walked off the set Thursday during a debate with Democratic operative James Carville.
The exchange during CNN’s “Inside Politics” came during a discussion of Florida’s Senate campaign. CNN correspondent Ed Henry noted when it was through that he had been about to ask Novak about his role in the investigation of the leak of a CIA officer’s identity.
A CNN spokeswoman, Edie Emery, called Novak’s behavior “inexcusable and unacceptable.” Novak had apologized to CNN, and CNN was apologizing to viewers, she said.
“We’ve asked Mr. Novak to take some time off,” she said.
A telephone message at Novak’s office was not immediately returned Thursday.
Carville and Novak were both trying to speak while they were handicapping the GOP candidacy of Katherine Harris. Novak said the opposition of the Republican establishment in Florida might not be fatal for her.
“Let me just finish, James, please,” Novak continued. “I know you hate to hear me, but you have to.”
Carville, addressing the camera, said: “He’s got to show these right wingers that he’s got a backbone, you know. It’s why the Wall Street Journal editorial page is watching you. Show ’em that you’re tough.”
“Well, I think that’s bull---- and I hate that,” Novak replied. “Just let it go.”
As moderator Henry stepped in to ask Carville a question, Novak walked off the set.
Only two weeks ago, CNN executives defended their decision to keep Novak on the air during the ongoing probe into the revelation of CIA officer Valerie Plame’s identity. In a July 2003 newspaper column, Novak identified Plame, the wife of administration critic and former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson, as a CIA operative.
Wilson has said the leak of his wife’s name was an attempt by the administration to discredit him. Two other reporters connected to the case openly fought the revelation of their sources, and Judith Miller of The New York Times has been jailed for refusing to cooperate with prosecutors.
Novak has repeatedly refused to comment about his role in the federal investigation.
After Novak walked off on Thursday, Henry said that Novak had been told before the segment that he was going to be asked on air about the CIA case.
“I’m hoping that we will be able to ask him about that in the future,” Henry said.
Novak has been a longtime contributor to CNN, taking the conservative point of view during the just-canceled “Crossfire” show.
